Life for a Child

“Life for a child” (LFAC) is a program of the International Diabetes Federation, IDF, that supports diabetes centers around the world to provide ongoing clinical care and diabetes education to children with diabetes. The program is currently aiding more than 10,000 children and youth with diabetes, in close to 50 countries, including Haiti. In Haiti, LFAC is coordinated through the Haitian Diabetes Association FHADIMAC, and as of February 2013, all children at Kay Mackenson benefit from the program. At the current time, children receive a glucometer, 1 glucose test stripy per day, one type of insulin, 2 syringes per week, and hemoglobin A1c testing. In addition, LFAC and KM collaborate on childhood diabetes related research projects.

Partners in Health (Zanmi Lasante)

PIH was founded in 1987 to deliver health care to the residents of Haiti's mountainous Central Plateau region. PIH’s program in Haiti, known locally as Zanmi Lasante (ZL), is its oldest and most replicated. ZL is the largest nongovernment health care provider in Haiti, and recently opened a University Hospital in Mirebalais, a 200,000-square foot, 300-bed teaching hospital.

KM and PIH have a memorandum of understanding that allows for close clinical collaboration.

Formerly known as the Pierre Payen Hospital, the Victor Brinkley Hospital is supported and owned by a joint venture of the  Churches of God and Project Help.  In 2012, Project Help entered an agreement with Organizasyon Sante Popile (OSAPO) to provide administrative and medical management to the hospital.

The hospital was started in part by Dr. Victor Brinkley and a team of doctors from his surgical practice based in Indiana, OH.  Since establishing the hospital at Pierre Payen, Haiti in 1977, Dr. Brinkley had dedicated his life to building the facility, providing health care and teaching Haitians to provide health care.  It is now one of the forerunners in providing healthcare to Haitians and is a fitting and enthusiastic partner of Kay Mackenson’s.
